Vetora provides in-clinic euthanasia appointments during normal clinic hours. In some circumstances, at-home euthanasia may be available, and our team can discuss this option with you.
When preparing for an appointment, you may wish to bring:
Your pet's favourite blanket or toy
Any questions or concerns you would like to discuss
A family member, friend, or support person
You can choose whether to attend alone or bring loved ones with you. Whatever feels right for your family is respected.
When you arrive, you will be taken to a quiet room where our team will explain the process, answer your questions, and give you as much time as you need with your pet. You will also be asked to complete a consent form and make decisions regarding aftercare.
A calming sedative may be offered to help your pet relax before the procedure. If administered, your pet will gradually become sleepy over several minutes. During this time, you may sit with, hold, or comfort your pet. Additional charges may apply for sedation.
Once your pet is relaxed, the veterinarian administers the euthanasia medication. A catheter may be placed in a vein, and the medication is given through this catheter. The medication works quickly and painlessly, allowing your pet to drift into a deep sleep and pass peacefully.
Your veterinarian will confirm when your pet has passed. You may remain with your pet for as long as you need before leaving the clinic.
Being present during euthanasia is a deeply personal decision. There is no right or wrong choice.
Some people find comfort in being with their pet throughout the procedure, while others prefer not to be present. If you choose not to stay, one of our compassionate veterinary nurses will remain with your pet, providing comfort, reassurance, and care until the very end.
